I grew up in the Appalachian Mountains, on Dan's Mountain, in the corner of Maryland, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania. My backyard was Dan's Mountain. My playground was a forest full of trees, turtles, squirrels, deer, and lots of cool rocks. That home shaped my future.

I'm fourth generation military. I served in the US Air force in many places. After completing my six year tour in the Air Force, I attended the University of California, Santa Barbara, where I studied engineering and hydrogeology. After graduation, I moved to Virginia to work for a engineering firm that specialized in geotechnical design. My company increased their environmental work, and I applied to VCU to study environmental science. The new environmental work interested me, it was more significant on a global scale.

I attended graduate school full time at the VCU Center for Environmental Studies. While there, my studies were focused on biogeochemistry and hydrogeology, and I was also afforded the opportunity to take graduate biology classes in wetlands, river and stream ecology/fauna, and biostatistics. In 1999, I completed my thesis concerning Lithology and radon concentrations in groundwater. In 2004, I revised my thesis, and it was published by the Journal Environmental Research in 2006.

During my studies at VCU, I worked for Chesterfield County Public Schools as a part-time teacher with the electronics/computer section of the high school vocational center. After a year of teaching at the vocational center, I completed the County's teacher training program, and substituted for math and science classes throughout Chesterfield County. I enjoyed teaching very much. Several years after graduation from VCU, I taught two years in the evenings as an Instructor of Environmental Chemistry and Technology at John Tyler College.

In subsequent years, I worked as an engineering and environmental geologist throughout the US, and in many countries. In Iraq, 2005-2006, I trained Iraqi engineers to build new groundwater wells and water treatment facilities. I also managed environmental engineering projects in several Iraqi provinces. During my work there, I realized that I not only enjoyed training and teaching, but I had a passion for it.

我在美国和其他很多地方都做过工程师和环境地质学家。2005年-2006年在伊拉克，我负责建造新的地下水管道和水质检测系统。除此之外我还在伊拉克很多州负责过环境工程的项目。伊拉克的经历让我意识到自己不只是喜欢培训和教书，这些也是我热爱的事情。

After my work in Iraq, I was contracted to supervise environmental programs throughout Kuwait, and to liaison with the Kuwait Environmental Protection Agency. In that capacity, I trained and taught a group of multi-national scientists and engineers the applicable laws, policies, and local regulations concerning environmental/hazardous materials, emergency response, and compliance. In 2009, I took a temporary contract as the country-wide Environmental Program Manager, PACAF, Korea. While there, I implemented new environmental management training standards for all joint USAF/ROKAF bases.

In the Spring of 2010, my wife, who is from Fujian, China, and I, moved to China. I joined Qingdao Grand High School in Shandong to teach math, science and English. I very much enjoyed teaching and spending time with the students. In 2012, we moved to Shanghai, where I taught math and physics at the Australian International High School, Jin Pingua International School. In 2015, I moved to Minhang to work with the newly opened California Crosspoint School, which has a transfer relationship with my old alma mater. I consider it privilege to work at this school, which has such good relations with UC.

2010年春天，我和来自中国福建的妻子一起搬到了中国，并且在青岛格兰德高中担任数学，科学和英语老师。我非常喜欢教书，并且花了很多时间和学生在一起。2012年，我搬到了上海，在金苹果国际学校教授数学和物理。2015年，我来到了之前的母校加州汇点高中工作，这所高中与UC系统有着特别好的关系。

I guarantee my students these things: what they learn from me, I didn't just read in a textbook-I did it; I'm tough but fair - if they try hard, I'll make sure they do well; and I'm always available to give them help.
